Useful Tips on Chemical Hazard
The presence of factories using chemical substances for their production activities in the territory exposes the population and surrounding environment to industrial risk.
In case of an industrial incident, it is important to feel ready and know in advance all the necessary steps to mitigate the risk.
This section includes useful tips on proper behaviour to adopt before, during and after an industrial incident occurs.
BEFORE
Tip #1
With the help of your parents or teachers, find out information about any factory or plant in your territory that could be a potential risk (it can be useful to trace them on a map and see how close they are from the places you usually go to!), information leaflets provided by the Mayor, safety measures in the Emergency Plan of your city.
Tip #2
Make sure you gather all relevant information (such as telephone number and e-mails) of relevant contact persons (such as family doctors, school teachers, firemen etc.) to use in case of need.
DURING
Tip #3
Stay indoors or move indoors as quick as possible to reduce exposure to toxic substances released.
Tip #4
Close doors and windows covering the openings with wet cloth, turn off air conditioners and ventilators avoiding the exchange of air with the outside.
Tip #5
Pay attention to the information given by the authorities through megaphones or other means and possible signals.
Tip #6
Keep informed by radio and TV until the alarm has ceased, and follow the indications given by the authorities on the measures to adopt and the ongoing situation.

At the end of the alarm, air the rooms and check the local radios to follow the post emergency situation.
AFTER
Tip #8
Monitor your health and seek medical advice or assistance if you or anyone near you feel unwell, ill or have any difficulties breathing.
