Safe water and food in emergencies

How to prevent the spread of disease due to improperly stored food and water during an emergency

During an emergency, safe food and water are not always available to consume. In fact, following a disaster, the consumption of contaminated water or food could encourage the spread of diseases.

For this reason, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided a series of guidelines for protecting health safety during an emergency. The CDC guidance teaches how to disinfect food and water containers, which foods are most recommended for emergency consumption and much more.

Find out more about how to consume safe food and water in an emergency.
