Why was the Italian Civil Protection born?
The concept of civil protection as an expression of solidarity, spirit of collaboration and civic sense has distant roots. The Italian hystory, in fact, tells of solidarity and voluntary organizations committed to providing help in case of emergency already with the medieval religious orders. The need to rescue and assist the affected population therefore represents the first spontaneous expression of civil protection in Italy.
Thanks to the experience gained in the management of emergencies il becomes clear, over time, that for an effective action to protect life and the environment, greater coordination of all the forces in the field and a commitment not only centered on the intervention phase are necessary.
From this awareness the modern Italian Civil Protection was born: a coordinated system of skills capable not only of acting and reacting in the event of an emergency, but also of implementing targeted risk prediction and prevention actions.
