RisKIT: learn by playing
In 2019, on the occasion of the National Day for Safety in Schools (GNSS) promoted by the Ministry of Education, Save the Children joined the initiative by creating RisKIT, a child-sized game for the promotion of children's and adolescents' rights and knowledge of risks in the area, sent to Italian schools that organised events and activities to raise awareness and information on the theme of safety, involving around 3,000 boys and girls.
The RisKIT is composed of four activities for the construction of a pathway on the importance of children's rights even during emergency situations and aimed at the dissemination of a culture of safety and risk prevention.
The activities focus on 4 macro objectives:
- Getting to know the operational structures of the Italian Civil Protection. Understand the functions and roles of each component through a participative and playful-recreational methodology.
- Understand and explore the risks of natural origin in one's own territory. Cooperate to construct a risk calendar and identify some of the measures to mitigate them.
- Learn about the emergency preparedness and management tools available to the family and or class; construct an emergency kit.
- Disseminate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Make children aware of their rights, through a participative and recreational activity.
