CHEERS - Cultural HEritagE. Risks and Securing activities

Earthquakes, landslides, natural disasters of all kinds. How can cultural heritage be protected against risks of natural origin? The European project CHEERS has developed innovative emergency planning tools for the protection of cultural heritage aimed at civil protection and emergency planners and managers of cultural heritage.

CHEERS - Cultural HEritagE. Risks and Securing activities, the 3-year European project, has worked on the theme of emergency planning for the protection and securing of Cultural Heritage exposed to risks of natural origin (floods, landslides, avalanches, storms, forest fires, earthquakes). 

Financed by the European Alpine Space programme, the project worked "on the theme of protecting and securing cultural assets exposed to natural hazards and was mainly oriented towards planning and prevention activities. 

CHEERS' has been primarily focused on: 

1) building the knowledge base for identifying and assessing the significance and vulnerability of cultural heritage at risk; 
2) definition of intervention approaches and techniques for securing the cultural heritage exposed to natural hazards, dedicated to Civil Protection operators; 
3) development of new emergency planning models for the protection of cultural heritage, built on shared pilot experiences and transferable at transnational level.
