january 24, International Education Day
To invest in people, education must be prioritized
education is a fundamental tool for personal growth, both as an individual and as a member of society. Too often, children and adolescents see this right violated, especially in poorer countries. In fact, approximately 244 million children and adolescents worldwide do not attend school, 617 million cannot read or do basic math, less than 40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa have completed lower secondary school, and approximately four million refugee children and young people do not attend school
International Education Day, established by the United Nations to celebrate the role of education in peace and development, invites us to reflect on the importance of education as a right for all, as a public good, and as a fundamental means of combating inequality, poverty, marginalization, and exploitation, and for achieving all the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
