Why was the Civil Protection Agency created?
The first spontaneous expression of Civil Protection in Italy arose from the need to assist and rescue the population in emergency situations
The concept of civil protection as an expression of solidarity, spirit of collaboration, and civic duty has deep roots. The history of our country tells of solidarity and volunteer organizations committed to providing aid in emergencies, dating back to medieval religious orders. The need to rescue and assist the affected population was therefore the first spontaneous expression of civil protection in Italy.
It is precisely the experience gained in emergency management that has made it clear, over time, that effective action to protect life and the environment requires greater coordination of all forces in the field and a commitment that is not only focused on the intervention phase.
This awareness gave rise to civil protection as we know it today: a coordinated system of skills capable not only of acting and reacting in an emergency, but also of implementing targeted risk prediction and prevention measures.
